Welcome! To Kayleigh's House of Horrors!
It has been a month since I have graduated and boy, did it happen all so fast! If you have read my last blog post then you know that I had to curate my own show to exhibit the best examples of my work at Kendall College of Art and Design. And of course, I had exit loan counseling, commencement rehearsal and the commencement ceremony itself. I haven't made a post yet about how the my exhibition turned out and the lessons I have learned from it.
The way Kendall College of Art and Design looks during the end of the spring semester is amazing! The entire college turns into an art gallery with work exhibited by all the graduating seniors. All the blood sweat and tears are shown with hard work and dedication; walking through the rooms brings a great, urgent sense of the need to create. It is such an inspiring experience and one that was an honor to be a part of. I can not wait to attend next year and see what great work the seniors show!
I promised to share photos from my show after the opening reception and boy, am I behind on sharing those! Well, here it goes... Ladies and Gentlemen, my senior show!
These are the overall look of my show. Some said it was too much, others jaws dropped open. The look was not for everybody, but my goal was for it to look like a haunted house! If you think it looks like it took a lot of work to put it together, then you would be correct! In total, it took three days to set it up. The first day was solely dedicated to getting the fabric on the walls. (Kayleigh, I think you made a typo. Did you say "FABRIC on the walls!?") Yes, I did! I was not able to damage the walls but I really wanted to change the look of them. So I used a technique I have used before in my kitchen. You can use liquid starch and fabric to act as a wallpaper. This does not harm the walls and it comes off very easily!!! Here is a little closer look.
I wanted to have a window in the show to give it more of a house feel to it. My boyfriend suggested I paint a scene to go in the window. A forest scene with bodies hanging off in the distance. Many people didn't notice the bodies because of the blinds but it was a focal point of the show that many people enjoyed!
This was the corner of my show where visitors could gather my information through postcards and business cards as well as my future children's book and how to help crowd fund the project! I also gave out free stickers! Many loved this table and took a lot of information. Unfortunately, somebody also stole a book of my boyfriends on display. :/ (I was really disappointed somebody did this).
If you haven't noticed, this lighting in my show was very important to me! I had fake candles all over including in the jack-o-lantern and the sconces I made. I also found the great Edison string lights from 5 Below that completed the whole show!
I was surprised at how little coloring pages had been taken. I printed off fifty of them and only about five were taken. I still have them and pass them out at any event I attend! I also attempted to sell prints at my show.
There are a lot of people I have to thank, my Sisters, Mom and Dad, Grandparents and most of all, my boyfriend Jesse! He has been a tremendous supporter of my art and always says "yes" when I ask for help. I have been with him for the majority of my college career and he has always encouraged me to continue with my weird horror genre even though many people do not understand or appreciate it. My family also has been there through all of my weird interests, keeping an eye open for any and all horror or halloween things that may become useful to me!
Thank you all for tuning in and staying patient with my slow ability to write blog posts (really trying to work on that!) Until next time!
